95% of the herbs we use are either naturally grown on our farm or ethically wild harvested from our bioregion. We hand harvest all of our herbs, insuring freshness. The few herbs we have to outsource are grown on US small herb farms. We never use pesticides or herbicides. Our farming practices enrich our soil, and there for, the environment around us. The garden is a haven for local bees, butterflies, and lightning bugs. Following the honorable harvest when wildcrafting, we make sure to only take what we need, and only in a way that ensures future thriving of the plant species. We are lucky enough to have access to some private lands that have never been industrially farmed and provide beautiful woods and prairies to harvest native flora. Growing and wild crafting nearly ALL of our herbs is a core value of Ancient Herbals. We believe that potent and effective plant medicine starts with healthy, fresh, well-loved herbs. Seeing the process through from seed to bottle infuses our remedies with the freshest plants. Plus, the joy of communing with all our plant friends is a way of life we hope to share with you.

While we are not certified Organic, we use beyond-organic farming practices. No chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides are ever used on our land or in our products. We practice regenerative farming practices, including crop rotation, wood chip mulched pathways, composting, composted animal manure inputs, straw mulching, resting beds for seasons, seed saving, and more. If you have any questions about our farming practices, please don't hesitate to reach out!We believe in bringing you the cleanest herbal creations free from parabens, synthetic fragrances, artificial dyes, petroleum-based ingredients, sulfates, phthalates, or microplastics. ALL of the ingredients we use in formulating (ie; oils, butters, preservatives) are organic and sourced as locally as possible, and of the highest quality.

Keep them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. For hydrosols, refrigeration can extend freshness, especially during summer months. Never leave them in your hot car!

Due to the nature of our small batch, handmade products, we cannot accept returns. However, if something arrives damaged or there is a concern with your order, please contact us and we'll do our best to make it right.

Many herbs we work with are ethically wildcrafted; here is what that means to us. First of all, we harvest from lands we have access to through years of trusted friendships and connections with local contacts. Harvesting from forest preserves is not only illegal, but can seriously deplete local populations, especially when we don't know if others are harvesting from the same plots. (With that said, you can obtain permits to harvest from those areas; we hope to move into a future where we, the people, have access to the land around us with the goal of sustaining our communities with local medicines and food. Also, depending on where you live, you may have access to BLM land and state forests; laws will vary.) We never take the first plant of a species we find, and we never take the biggest ones (the grandmother plants), leaving those to create more babies for future seasons. We always make sure to harvest in a way that preserves the herb we are wildcrafting. Always ensuring the plants we work with are able to thrive and keep going season after season. When we are able, we spread seed and always help to maintain the wild areas from which we wildcraft. Honoring the land and each plant we work with is of utmost importance. If there is not enough of the herb one season, and we feel it is unethical to harvest, we will just have to make do without it, because reciprocity and care for the land is much more important than any need of ours to make a product.
